Porn Addiction – Why Porn is a Drug You Must Avoid

There is a drug that affects many men and causes broken families, divorces, and deterioration in all aspects of a man’s life. You don’t buy it off the streets or get it from the pharmacy or liquor store. That drug is Porn.

Porn, for those who don’t know, is the display of sexual acts that can be easily viewed by men of all ages. The sexual acts have no boundaries to what they can be and have been around since the early 1900’s.

Porn is a drug that you must avoid

Porn is a drug as it is habit forming and has the ability to control your body.

Porn controls your body through the release of endorphins in your mind that causes you to feel heightened sexual arousal which in turn causes you to feel happy. This is similar to any other addictions which can either be pharmaceuticals, alcohol or street drugs. You watch pornography, you feel physically happy. You find ways to release that excitement and most men ejaculate with satisfaction.cycle-addiction-porn

The pattern has begun. Watching porn, feeling physically happy, release and feeling satisfaction. The pattern quickly programs into your head that you can have sexual satisfaction and that porn was the cause of it.

You feel yourself wanting more.

So you watch more. It overtakes you. The type of porn you watch gets more intense. It may start out as a man and a woman but you begin to push your boundaries and what you search for.

All of a sudden – you are a porn addict

You will begin to notice a few things when you get to this stage. The woman in your life will become less desirable because she is not willing to do the things the girls in the video are doing. You begin to wonder if there are other women out there in the world who would do these things for you. Physical issues will also present themselves through difficulty achieving erections or ejaculating. You believe real life is not as good as the pornographic movies you are watching.

In the meantime, you go back to watching some more porn over your frustration with the fact that you aren’t having sex with a porn star at home.

This addiction causes more homes to be broken than you can imagine. It is an underlying cause of many fights in relationships, the dissatisfaction with your at home sex life. If someone has a drug or alcohol addiction, it can usually be seen on the person, there are telltale signs of an addiction. Changes in skin, different eyes, track marks, teeth, breath, the warning signs are usually there. With porn, there are no warning signs.

When does porn addiction start?

Porn watching is happening at a younger and younger age. Can you recall the first time you watched porn? A friend of mine had got a VHS (yes videotape) from his much older cousin and we watched it. I was only 14. As the internet and individual computers became more prevalent so did the availability of online porn.

The sites and opportunities are endless, it is almost unbelievable how much and what type is available out there. Unfortunately, it is readily available to anyone who has access to the internet. This means our sons can easily access it as well. The addiction will only get worse too as virtual reality technology becomes more available which will allow teenagers to simulate having intercourse with a virtual world.

Viewing porn gives young men, teenagers a false sense of the real world chase. Chasing a girl, trying to get her number, either succeeding or failing is part of a male growing up. You will learn something about yourself from failure or built confidence from success. It was barely ever sex in those instances, but it was the thrill of the chase.

Our young sons are now getting the wrong impression. They believe the chase to be easy, that all girls are similar to porn stars. It is creating a false sense of masculinity and destroying a significant trait that makes men, men.

There is a reason that men are the hunters. In the aspect of dating and relationships, pornography destroys this. It is coming to the fact that young men no longer desire the chase because they can just watch porn without the embarrassment of getting turned down.

How can I Stop My Porn Addiction?

Porn addiction is happening at a much younger age now. It will have tremendous adverse effects on the future of families and the future of our world.

break-cycle-addictionBreaking the cycle is difficult. Every addiction is difficult to break but through small changes, you can start making a difference. Porn is something you can look forward to as it is an exciting and satisfying part of your day.

The first thing you must do is admit that you have an addiction. Porn addiction is real and porn is a drug that controls your body.

The best way to do it is to give it straight up. Find a computer program that you can set up to block those types of websites. This may be very hard for some.

Another way is to de-escalate the type of sexual acts you are watching. Downgrading from hardcore, fetish oriented porn, to soft-core porn will start to bring things into perspective. This is similar to how an alcoholic will reduce consumption by going from a case of beer to a 12 pack to a 6 pack and continually drinking less to overcome their addiction.

Once you have overcome the porn habit, never look back. Your relationship will improve because your attention will be a real person rather than a virtual person.

One last point I want to make perfectly clear. Don’t be ashamed of your addiction. Don’t feel the need to apologize to anyone. All you have to do is break your habit which will allow you to become a better man.

  1. Hey, I really enjoyed reading this. Thanks for writing on such an emotive subject and I’m glad you were able to share some of your fears for your son from your own experience.

I’m in full agreement with your teacher that porn is a drug as it definitely has drug like effects on the body through the release of hormones (oxytocin being a significant one.

My concern with porn is the sheer availability of it. While I’ve kicked the porn habit, my son and daughter will be exposed to it much earlier in life through cell phones and the internet than I ever was.

What’s they key? Good education so that they can make the right choices in those situations.

    Thanks again for writing.
